The method

  1. Each account is aggregated into the statement line it was classified onto, on that line's normal side: assets and expenses debit, liabilities and revenue credit.
  2. An account left "not classified" does not disappear: it appears as an exception carrying its balance, because a balance nobody can place is a balance no statement can carry.
  3. The "offsetting side" is a line the tool adds rather than you: these are four account balances, one side of four entries whose other side sits in cash or payables. It shows the difference because a ledger balances as a whole, and returns to zero when your own figures balance on their own.
  4. The tool aggregates rather than judging: it says what your classification produces, not whether your classification was right.

When you need it

You have connected figures that need testing before they enter the close file. Classify four accounts onto statement lines, and see what the statements can say — and what they cannot.

The decision it supports

Use the result to decide whether the work can be accepted or a difference or classification needs tracing. The tool shows its method beside the result so you can review it.
