Tax invoice check
Check a supplier invoice before recording it: is its tax right, and does it carry what makes the input deductible?
Result
- Expected tax
- 3675.00
- Variance against the invoice
- 0.00
- Invoice total
- 28175.00
- Elements missing
- 0.00
The invoice is complete; its input tax is deductible
The method
- Expected tax = taxable amount × rate. The variance against what the invoice states is shown as it is, with no rounding to hide it.
- The five elements are checked for presence rather than validity: the tool says an element is missing; it does not judge whether a tax number written on the page is real.
- The result is a teaching check rather than a filing or a tax opinion, and the rate is an input because a supply may be exempt or zero-rated.
Rate provenance
Standard VAT rate — 15%
When persons subject to VAT sell a good or provide a service, they must charge tax at a rate of 15% (assuming that the standard rate applies to those supplies), which is added to the final selling price.
The standard rate applies where the supply is standard-rated. Exempt and zero-rated supplies are treated differently, and the source itself qualifies the figure with "assuming that the standard rate applies".
